We are seeking a Vice President of Construction Management to lead this next chapter of our organization within our west region. This executive, reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, will guide and grow our current construction management practice while laying the foundation for enterprise-wide CM operations.

The role combines operational excellence with strategic platform development, delivering results today while shaping the future of construction management across a larger, more complex, and geographically diverse organization. We anticipate this role covering (WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, UT, ID, MT, WY, CO, NM).

Key Responsibilities:


Leadership & Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of 40+ professionals, including Construction Managers, Inspectors, and Project Coordinators.
  • Define and continuously improve the firm’s construction management operating model, anticipating future service lines (e.g., infrastructure CM, vertical CM, environmental construction oversight, program management, specialty construction services).
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and professional development across the entire construction staff.
  • Establish and enforce best practices, standardize procedures, and implement effective project management methodologies to ensure our clients’ projects achieve their key performance indicators

Operational & Financial Oversight

  • Own full responsibility for achieving the department's financial goals, including revenue targets, profit margins, and cost control for the overall construction division.
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget.
  • Report on project performance, financial metrics, and operational status to executive leadership.

Strategic Oversight of Environmental Restoration Subsidiary

  • Provide executive guidance to middle management of the environmental restoration construction subsidiary.
  • Review and approve project bids to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.
  • Collaborate with subsidiary leadership to define and set the strategic direction and growth objectives.
  • Review contract risk and general construction risk, providing mitigation strategies.

Core Project & Portfolio Management

  • Provide executive-level oversight for our core construction management portfolio, ensuring high quality construction management and inspection deliverables within the following sectors:
    • Public Works Infrastructure (e.g., roads, bridges, underground utilities, water treatment facilities, port facilities, mass transit).
    • Hydropower Generation and Facilities.
    • Transmission and Distribution systems (e.g., high-voltage lines, substations).

M&A Integration & Expansion

  • Play a significant role in evaluating acquisition targets with construction capabilities and integrating those teams into the MacKay Sposito platform.
  • Establish unified CM culture, systems, and expectations across acquired companies.
  • Identify and nurture future CM leaders in newly acquired markets, building a deeper and more distributed leadership bench.

Business Development & Strategy

  • Develop and execute strategies to secure a strong pipeline of future work and expand market share within new geographies and market sectors
  • Represent the construction management practice externally across regions. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field; a professional engineering license is a plus.
  • Senior construction management leadership experience, ideally with oversight of multi-region or multi-office operations.
  • Experience with infrastructure or civil projects, as well as exposure to energy, utilities, or environmental construction, is a strong plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic oversight and business guidance to heavy-civil or environmental construction, including reviewing bids and managing high-level contract and construction risk.
  • Ability to travel periodically as the company expands (frequency tailored to candidate and pace of geographic expansion but essential for national leadership).
  • Strong financial acumen and a proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding departmental financial goals.

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations. The wage range for this position is $185,000-$235,000 annually, depending on experience.

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefits package, including access to our company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, HSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, and Long Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401 (k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees also receive paid vacation time, paid sick time, and 11 paid holidays. MacKay Sposito pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual profit-sharing bonuses.
