Human Resources Generalist

In this role, you will serve as a trusted partner to leadership and employees across the organization, with a strong focus on employee relations and training and development. You will help foster a workplace where employees feel heard, supported, and equipped to succeed, while guiding leadership with practical tools and training rooted in our core values of honesty, dedication, and relationships.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Leadership Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees on employee relations matters, providing guidance on workplace concerns, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and performance-related matters.
- Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial workplace investigations when appropriate; document findings and recommend appropriate action.
- Coach leadership on best practices related to employee relations, documentation, employee recognition, employee motivation, effective feedback conversations, and overall employee development.
- Partner with leadership to foster a positive, compliant, engaged, and high-performing work environment.
Training & Development
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate leadership training programs focused on employee relations best practices, employee development, employee engagement, recognition strategies, and delivering effective feedback.
- Manage and administer training programs, including evaluating and vetting potential Learning Management Systems (LMS); overseeing course selection and development, assignments, completion tracking, reporting, and maintenance of accurate training records.
- Identify training needs in partnership with leadership and recommend development solutions aligned with organizational goals.
- Support onboarding program enhancements to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the organization.
HR Operations & Compliance (Backup/Shared Support)
- Support the administration and maintenance of the HRIS (Rippling) to ensure data integrity, reporting accuracy, and system efficiency.
- Support benefits administration, including new hire enrollment and life event changes.
- Support the administration of employee leave programs (FMLA, parental leave, and other paid/unpaid leave), ensuring compliance and accurate tracking.
- Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and provide insights to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and maintain accurate employee documentation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 4 years of progressive HR experience, with strong emphasis in employee relations and employee development
- Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters, conducting workplace investigations, and coaching managers through complex personnel situations
- Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating manager training programs, particularly related to employee relations best practices, employee development, and delivering effective employee feedback
- Experience administering and managing a Learning Management System (LMS), including course assignment, tracking completion, reporting, and maintaining training records
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEOC, etc.)
- Experience supporting employee leave programs and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms, including reporting, data integrity, and system troubleshooting
- Experience supporting employee benefit programs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and build credibility at all levels of the organization

With more than 50 years of experience, MacKay Sposito is a multidisciplinary firm based in Vancouver, Washington, specializing in public works, energy, and land development. Our passionate team focuses on building lasting relationships through quality work, creative design, and collaboration. We offer civil engineering, land surveying, environmental science and permitting, landscape architecture, and construction management and inspection services.
Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations. The wage range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefits package, including access to our company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, HSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, and Long Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401 (k) plan with up to a 4% match
Additionally, employees also receive paid vacation time, paid sick time, and 11 paid holidays. MacKay Sposito pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.
