At MacKay Sposito we believe great people build great communities—and that starts with hiring the right talent. We are currently seeking an experienced, licensed Landscape Architect to lead and grow our Landscape Architecture group in Federal Way, WA.

Successful candidates will have the ability to lead a team and to assist with and lead design projects within a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in handling a range of project types from public works to private development.

The position involves managing staff, consultants, and projects from concept through construction with a focus on quality design and user experience. Responsibilities include development of site analysis and programming, concept design development, illustrative graphics, client and stakeholder presentations, and preparation of construction documents.

Keys to Success:

  • Project management tasks include overseeing scopes, budgets, schedules, and project support staff.  Demonstrated experience in the preparation of detailed construction plans and specifications, and design services during construction. Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills are highly required.
  • Supporting a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment, working closely with engineers, surveyors, architects, planners, and biologists
  • Prepare site plans, specifications, and cost estimates for development, coordinating arrangement of existing and proposed land features and structures.
  • Preparing and/or managing illustrative exhibits for project proposals, concept development, and public presentations.
  • Communicating design concepts and technical information to clients, stakeholders, permitting agencies, and internal team members
  • Prepare cost and time estimates in collaboration with engineering, technical or leadership personnel for engineering, construction or extraction efforts.
  • Compile and analyze data on conditions such as location, drainage, soil conditions, and location of structures for environmental impact and landscaping plans.
  • Lead planning, site design, irrigation, and planting design in compliance with standards/codes.
  • Perform physical on-site observation and inspection of construction projects to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans and specifications.
  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications or construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Support business development, assisting with proposal writing and development of scope and fees for design efforts.
  • Utilize a variety of electronic recording, reporting, and job specific tools to complete work, document activities, and ensure file documentation for the project.
  • Proactively provide lead opportunities for formal follow-up to Construction Manager

Requirements:

  • Requires a minimum of 7+ years of work experience as a Landscape Architect, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Landscape Architecture, and a current license as a Landscape Architect.
  • Experience and proficiency in the following key areas:  Creative visioning; AutoCAD; word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
  • Requires demonstrated success in working independently to meet deadlines, manage projects, and execute a wide range of technical activities reliably.
  • Requires ability to maintain effective working relationships with public, governmental jurisdictions, contractors, sub-consultants, other professionals, clients and staff.

With more than 50 years of experience, MacKay Sposito is a multidisciplinary firm based in Vancouver, Washington, specializing in public works, energy, and land development. Our passionate team focuses on building lasting relationships through quality work, creative design, and collaboration. We offer civil engineering, land surveying, environmental science and permitting, landscape architecture, and construction management and inspection services.

Please note that this salary information is a general guidelines only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

The wage range for this position is $115,000 - 135,000 annual salary, depending on experience.

Full time employees receive a well rounded benefit package including access to our company sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company paid Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, and Long Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company 401k plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees also receive paid vacation time, paid sick time, and 11 paid holidays and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay Sposito pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual profit sharing bonuses.
